SDGE shuts off power to nearly 900 customers as Santa Ana winds pick up

San Diego Gas & Electric shut off power to nearly 900 customers early Tuesday to help reduce the chances of triggering wildfires as the latest Santa Ana windstorm moved through parts of San Diego County.
Another 50,000 customers have been notified that their power also could be disrupted.
The outage affects customers in Alpine, Boulevard, Campo, Campo Reservation, Descanso, Julian and La Posta Reservation.
The National Weather Service has issued a red flag fire weather for areas east of Interstate 15 until 6 p.m. Wednesday.
The outages came as fire crews knocked down a small brush fire in Ramona that ignited early Tuesday and briefly threatened a home.
The fire was reported shortly after 6:30 a.m. near Pamo Road and West Haveford Road.
“Firefighters are making good progress and the forward rate of spread has been stopped,” Cal Fire Capt. Robert Johnson said shortly after 7 a.m.
He said no structures were damaged, and there were no reports of injuries. Crews were expected to remain on scene for two to three hours to ensure there weren’t any hot spots.
Fire officials initially reported the blaze had charred around 10 acres, but Johnson said it likely was around 5 acres. Two fire investigators were trying to determine what sparked the blaze, Johnson said.
On Monday, a wildfire burned 12 acres at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar before it was put out.
