Metro Inauguration service, station closures, train, bus schedules

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) said it was prepared to handle crowds of people expected in D.C. for Inauguration Day 2025.
As part of the planning, there are several adjustments to Metro schedules, both for trains and buses, and a number of Metro station closures.

Inauguration Day Opening
WMATA said the United States Secret Service (USSS) and the United States Capitol Police (USCP) asked that Metrorail open for service at 4 a.m. on Jan. 20.
Metro Station Closures/Entrance Closures
WMATA said five of its Metro stations would be closed for security reasons from 8 p.m. on Jan. 19 until 5 a.m. on Jan. 21:
McPherson Square (Blue, Orange, Silver lines)
Federal Triangle (Blue, Orange, Silver lines)
Smithsonian (Blue, Orange, Silver lines)
Mt. Vernon Sq.-Convention Center (Green, Yellow lines)
Archives-Navy Memorial (Green, Yellow lines)
WMATA said during the time that the closures are in place, trains will bypass the five stations.
The transit authority added that some station entrances would be closed 8 p.m. on Jan. 19 until 5 a.m. on Jan. 21:
Metro Center: 13th and G St. NW and 12th and F St. NW entrances
Farragut West: 17th and I St. NW entrance
Other station entrances will be closed during specifc times because of Inaugural events:
Gallery Place - 7th and F St. NW entrance, Jan. 19 from 2 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Judiciary Square - F Street/National Building Museum entrance, closes Jan. 19 at 4 p.m.; reopens Jan. 20 at 5 a.m.
The Union Station Metrorail Station won't be accessible via the Amtrak/Union Station entrance on Jan. 20 at 4 p.m. It reopens Jan. 21 at 5 a.m. People still can access the Metro station via exterior entrances at Union Station (1st St NE and on Massachusetts Ave. NE).
WMATA noted that people who are attending the Inauguration will have specific Metrorail stations listed on the back of the event ticket to show them their specific security entrance. Those stations are:
Union Station
Judiciary Square
Capitol South
Federal Center SW

Service Information
Metrorail
Metrorail will operate from 4 a.m. until midnight on Inauguration Day.
On Friday, it operates from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m., Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 a.m., and Sunday from 7 a.m. to midnight.
On Inauguration Day, Metro will run more service between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. Red Line trains are scheduled to arrive every 4 minutes. All other lines will have trains arriving every 8 minutes. The Yellow Line will be extended to Greenbelt for additional service.

WMATA said subscription trips will be canceled on Inauguration Day.
Because of the number of road closures in Downtown D.C., WMATA asked people to plan for delays and noted that service won't be availablein any secure/closed area.
Parking
Depending on the location, WMATA lots/spaces will cost $3 to $5.20 on Inauguration Day. Parking is free on the weekends.
