As the procession continues, it will pass several fire stations, including Takoma Park, Glenmont, and Burtonsville, before moving through Anne Arundel County and Earleigh Heights.
Higgins' fellow shift members and family will accompany him along his journey to the funeral home.
According to officials, Higgins collapsed while responding to a fire at a home in Laurel on Jan. 11. First responders performed CPR on Higgins before he was taken to the hospital, where he died. He was 46 years old.
Officials said Higgins served Montgomery County for over two decades and also volunteered in Anne Arundel County.

Those closest to him said he was inspiring and loved being a firefighter. Officials described Higgins as a loving husband, father, and mentor to members of the fire service community.
"In keeping with the family’s wishes, it is respectfully requested that no Fire Department personnel other than those assigned to the procession attend at the Medical Examiner's office in Baltimore or the Funeral Home in Anne Arundel County," said the MCFRS.
Members of the community who wish to honor Higgins can pay their respects only at the designated locations, either at fire stations or safe areas along the procession's route.
