[1] Otero County sheriff’s deputy facing murder charge after fatally shooting teen - An Otero county Sheriff's Deputy has been charged with first degree murder for shooting and killing a teen. Body cam footage shows deputy Jacob Diaz-Austin spotting 17-year-old Elijah Hadley walking along U.S. Highway 70 on June 25, 2024. After being given a command to stop, video shows Hadley stop then toss a BB gun to the side as the deputy fires four times. After more commands Hadley rolls over and the deputy opens fire again.
[2] Judge denies bid to block WNMU president from $1.9M severance payout - Western New Mexico University President Joseph Shepard resigned last month after stepping down due to allegations of improper spending. Regents guaranteed him a severance, which has already been paid out. Attorney General Raul Torrez recently announced an investigation into the regents actions and whether they violated their duty to the university by negotiating that deal. A judge ruled there is not enough information to justify blocking the Shepard from using the funds, but left the option open if the state presents further evidence.
[3] Bitterly cold start before milder & drier weather - Air temperatures for nearly all are below freezing with light winds making it feel a little bit colder, but eventually, temperatures will slowly rise ahead with drier air in the short term. Snow flurries will remain in the far-Northern Mountains will some drizzle in Southeast New Mexico overnight, but otherwise skies will mostly clear out from clouds. An eventual warming trend with drier westerly winds will return later this week before our next wintry pattern this weekend.
[4] Family’s 68-year-old Albuquerque relative missing for six days - A New Mexico veteran and former New Mexico State Police Officer is still missing and his family is asking for help from the community. 68-year-old New Mexico native Richard Hoak lives in the South Valley. The Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office say he was last seen on Atrisco near Central last Tuesday. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact BCSO.
[5] ‘We want to do right by this brand’: New owners of Marble Brewery speak out - Late last year, word spread on social media and within the beer industry that Marble’s future was on the rocks. Now the new owners, Bert Boyce and Jarret Babincsak, formerly with Santa Fe Brewing Company, are in their second week on the job. While the pair says there are some things to change and equipment to upgrade, there's also a lot to keep. The duo says they are committed to keeping the community at the heart of Marble.
