2 San Bernardino City Unified schools close Tuesday without power

Southern California Edison’s public safety power shutoffs have led to the closing of two schools in the San Bernardino City Unified School District on Tuesday, Jan. 14.
Kimbark Elementary School, 18021 Kenwood Ave., and Paakuma K-8 School, 17825 Sycamore Creek Loop Parkway, are both closed because they are without power, the district says on its website.
“Due to Edison’s Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) and tomorrow’s frigid temperatures,” schools will remain closed Tuesday, the notice states.
The National Weather Service warned of a “particularly dangerous situation” — an official level of alert — that could cause fires to spread rapidly kicking up Tuesday and it was expected to last until about noon Wednesday, Jan. 15.

At least three lawsuits representing more than a dozen victims were filed Monday, Jan. 13, in Los Angeles County Superior Court against Edison, blaming the utility for igniting the Eaton fire, which reduced areas of Altadena to rubble and caused 16 deaths.
