PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- A 27-year-old woman has been charged with malicious wounding after police said she allegedly used a "caustic substance" while assaulting her mother.
At 9:45 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 13, officers with the Petersburg Bureau of Police were called to the 5 block of Stately Court for the report of a domestic disturbance.
After an investigation into an incident between a mother and daughter, police said 27-year-old Mariah Simms was taken into custody and charged with malicious wounding after police said she allegedly used a "caustic substance" while assaulting her mother.
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, caustics are acids that can burn or corrode skin, eyes and mucus membranes.
Police said her mother received medical treatment and Simms was taken to Riverside Regional Jail pending her court appearance.
