Coldest temps of the season arrive next week
Jan 14, 2025
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) - Clouds increase later on today with highs in the mid to upper 50s. Temperatures tonight will be slightly milder than this morning lows, we will wake up to mid 40s Wednesday morning under mostly cloudy skies.
Clouds continue throughout Wednesday. There is a slight chance for showers overnight. Mostly sunny by Thursday afternoon, staying clear through the evening. Highs warm up to mid to lower 60s on Friday. Slight chance for rain Friday evening, with increasing rainfall overnight and into Saturday. Warm sector showers are expected all day Saturday. Highs warm to near 70s ahead of a big cold front early next week.
There has been chit-chat of snow/winter weather next week in south Louisiana. I am not completely ruling it out but leaning more towards cold rain at the moment.
This would be for the Wednesday AFTER the initial front passes on Sunday. Models are suggesting a pulse of moisture, developing from the west, crossing the gulf states. Since the cold air would already be settled in from the front earlier in the week. This would give us SOME chance for any precipitation to fall as SNOW, or sleet, or freezing rain.
HOWEVER, keep in mind that we are over a week away from this. Models are showing this play out in different ways. Right now, I am not 100% sure that the atmospheric column will be below freezing through, and through which is needed for snow formation. Until convinced otherwise, I am just calling for cold rain next week. Potential for wintry precip stays to our west.
