UPDATE: BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A teenage driver died early Tuesday morning after crashing into the Knox County Courthouse, according to the Barbourville Police Department. Authorities say the crash happened around 5:51 a.m. Tuesday. The driver, a 17-year-old male, was traveling at a high rate of speed on Knox Street (KY 2420) when the vehicle left the roadway at the intersection of Court Square, striking the courthouse, according to a press release from Barbourville Police. Emergency crews removed the driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle, from the wreckage. He was taken to Barbourville Appalachian Regional Healthcare by Knox County EMS, where he later died from his injuries. Officials have not released the name of the juvenile, citing his age.
