LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Tuesday! It’s another frigid start across the region this Tuesday morning, with temperatures ranging from the upper single digits to low teens. By midday, temperatures will briefly climb near freezing, but the cold will stick around as a reinforcing shot of arctic air moves in later today. Light snow showers will accompany this system during the afternoon, mainly across southern Indiana and north-central Kentucky. Snowfall will be minimal, with less than an inch expected, but quick bursts of snow could briefly reduce visibility. Gusty northwest winds will make it feel even colder, so plan for a wind chill factor in the teens. By tonight, skies will clear, allowing temperatures to plunge. Overnight lows will drop into the low single digits, with some spots dipping just below zero. Wind chills will be dangerously cold in some areas, so limit time outdoors if possible. Sunshine returns on Wednesday, but highs will remain below freezing, only reaching the low 20s in many locations. Bitter cold morning temperatures will persist, with lows near or below zero to start the day. By Thursday, a gradual warm-up begins, with highs climbing into the upper 30s under partly cloudy skies. On Friday even milder temperatures arrive, with highs in the mid-40s. Rain showers are likely late Friday night as a warm front lifts through the region. Rain showers move in on Saturday and will transition to snow Saturday night into Sunday as another blast of arctic air arrives. Highs on Saturday will hover in the low 40s, but by Sunday, temperatures will struggle to climb out of the 20s. We are tracking potential snow accumulation Sunday into Monday of next week as another arctic blast brings more bitter cold across the region.
