The car belonged to 50-year-old Platte County Sports Reporter Dennis A. Sharkey.
Deputies believe that Sharkey was driving southbound on the interstate when he was shot inside his car near the off-ramp of I-29 and Northwest 72nd Street. He later died at a hospital.
The deadly shooting caused a large back-up of traffic and left I-29 shut down as law enforcement investigated the crime scene.
Platte County said there is no suspect currently in custody.
