INDIANAPOLIS -- A 20-year-old has been taken into custody after a double shooting on the southwest side of Indianapolis earlier this month. According to a post on social media from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, 20-year-old Jason Powell was arrested on Monday and has been preliminarily charged with murder and attempted murder in relation to the shooting. Jason Powell On Jan. 3, officers with the department's southwest district were called to the 1800 block of Howard Street on reports of a person shot. When officers arrived, they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. IMPD: 1 killed, 1 injured in double shooting on Indy’s near southwest side According to previous reports, one of the men, later identified as 23-year-old Shannon Ramone Campbell Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene. The second person who was shot was taken to the hospital in critical condition. As homicide detectives began the investigation, the post read that detectives identified a suspect vehicle in the case, eventually leading IMPD to identify Powell as the suspect. On Monday, the department's violent crimes unit located Powell in the 2800 block of Ludwig Avenue. With assistance from IMPD's SWAT team, Powell was taken into custody without incident. The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will make the final charging decision for Powell.
