Wendell man arrested in connection with attempted murder, human trafficking case, deputies say

WENDELL, N.C. (WNCN) — A Wendell man was arrested Monday in connection with the attempted murder of a human trafficking victim, a warrant shows.
According to the warrant issued by the Wake County Sheriff's Office, 57-year-old Daryl Maurice Holden attempted to kill a woman with a blunt metal object and a machete on Dec. 30.
Deputies told CBS 17 that the arrest was part of an ongoing investigation where a Zebulon man was on the run when they tried to execute his warrant. Holden, however, was arrested without incident, according to deputies. The other suspect, 34-year-old Dustin Kristopher Letchworth, evaded deputies for hours Monday night.

According to deputies, on December 31, 2024 around 6 a.m., deputies got a call about an assault on the 7330 block of Hat Walt Lane near Wendell. The victim, an adult female, was at the hospital with serious injuries.
Deputies said the victim reported being assaulted by two men at a home and held against her will. The victim was able to leave the residence and was transported to the hospital by someone she knew.
Deputies said Letchworth and Holden are charged with the following felonies:
Attempted first-degree murder
Assault with a deadly weapon (two counts)
Human trafficking adult victim
Human trafficking adult victim
First-degree kidnapping
Promoting prostitution for profits
According to court records, Holden and Letchworth were not authorized bond. They are scheduled to appear in Wake County Court on Tuesday, Jan. 14.
