Pete Hegseth faces tough confirmation hearing

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) - President-elect Donald Trump's controversial pick to lead the Department of Defense is on Capitol Hill to take questions from senators.
Senators plan to ask questions about Pete Hegseth’s past behavior and whether he's fit to lead the more than two million American servicemembers.
Some senators have warned Tuesday’s hearing will be combative.
“He will be ripped...he will be demeaned,” said Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.).
Hegseth will need 51 Senate votes to be confirmed, but he faces allegations he mismanaged a veteran's organization funds and drank excessively.
Hegseth has denied the claims and promised not to drink any alcohol if confirmed.
“These are serious allegations for such an important job,” said Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.).
Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) has questioned Hegseth’s comments saying women shouldn't serve in combat roles.
He walked those comments back after his nomination.
Duckworth, a veteran, lost her legs in Iraq.
“He's just simply not qualified to manage at that level,” said Duckworth.
A 2017 police report details allegations of sexual assault which Hegseth also denies. He wasn't charged with a crime.
"The matter was fully investigated, and I was completely cleared,” said Hegseth in November.
Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville rallied a group of veterans who support Hegseth.
“Pete is somebody that believes in this country,” said Tuberville.
Tuberville has criticized the military under Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, calling it ‘woke’.
Supporters say Hegseth will take politics out of the Department of Defense.
“We don't need a woke military,” said Tuberville. Republicans have 53 seats in the Senate. Hegseth can only lose three Republicans to be confirmed.
