(CNN) — Dementia cases in the u-s are more common than previously thought — and that number could double over the next few decades. New study published in the “Nature Medicine” journal, estimates roughly 42% percent of Americans over 55-years-old will get dementia. The Alzheimer’s Association defines dementia as a generic term for the loss of memory, language, and other cognitive abilities. Findings are based on roughly 15-thousand patients whose health records were followed for more than 20-years. Researchers say one reason for the rise is aging baby boomers.
