Cold Weather Advisory issued for the N.C. Mountains
Jan 14, 2025
A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect for parts of the N.C. mountains as dangerously cold wind chills are expected Tuesday night. The advisory includes Ashe and Watauga counties from midnight through 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Wind chills as low 8 below zero will be possible. The bitter cold is the result of a reinforcing cold front that will sweep through the region tonight. Northwest winds 15-20 mph with gusts 40+ mph will send wind chills plummeting to dangerous levels.
Frostbite can occur on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes, and hypothermia is possible if precautions aren’t taken. It is important to limit outdoor exposure, but dress in layers if you must be outside. Bring pets inside and check on elderly or vulnerable neighbors.
