San Francisco man convicted of domestic violence

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- A San Francisco man was convicted of threatening to kill a woman with a kitchen knife inside their apartment while a 4-year-old child was also inside the home, prosecutors said.
On Monday, jurors found 30-year-old Hugo Urbano De Leon Diaz guilty of child endangerment, brandishing a deadly weapon, and making criminal threats.
District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said, "I hope this verdict helps the survivor as she continues to heal from this trauma."
On the evening of May 19, 2024, De Leon Diaz grabbed a large kitchen knife before the victim hid in a different room and called 911. "While hiding, the victim heard Mr. De Leon Diaz yelling obscenities and threats while banging on the walls and doors," prosecutors wrote. A 4-year-old child witnessed the frightening incident, according to prosecutors.
Police officers arrived at the apartment and immediately took the man to jail.
"A home should be a sanctuary, a place where families feel safe and secure -- never a space for fear or violence," said Assistant District Attorney John Robles. "This case is a clear example of why we must hold individuals accountable when they threaten that sense of safety. The San Francisco District Attorney’s Office will fight relentlessly for victims and innocent children."
De Leon Diaz is currently out of custody. His sentencing is scheduled for February 28.
