Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much. The Los Angeles wildfires have interrupted our regular scheduled entertainment with real human drama as people have lost their lives and homes to the ongoing tragedy on the west coast. If not for the courageous efforts of firefighters and pilots struggling to get the conflagrations under control, the loss of life and property could have been even more devastating. With the fires still burning and smoke still in the air, it’s almost impossible to concentrate on basketball, but the area immediately surrounding the Crypto.com Arena is not in any imminent danger of burning, and the game will go on. Both teams are on losing streaks, with the Spurs having lost their last three and the Lakers their last two. The Spurs have had two three game losing streaks* this season, and they hope to avoid losing four in a row for the first time with a win tonight. To do that, they will have to play better than the they have in the previous two games against the Lakers, both of them losses at home. Victor Wembanyama (Hector Banana Bread?) will have to play better than he did against Milwaukee, where he was held to 10 points and 0 free throws by Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks. Anthony Davis provides a different challenge to the talented French phenom, but he’s been an effective scorer on Wembanyama and Victor will probably not be able to roam as much as he usually does on defense. The extra rest should be helpful for Jeremy Sochan, and hopefully he will be back at full strength tonight. LeBron James has had about a full week of rest, and he should be a scary force for the Silver Screen Team. Hopefully both teams won’t be too rusty and we’ll see a well played game tonight, hopefully a Spurs win. It’s going to be a late night, so let’s brew up a pot of coffee and keep the caffeine going until at least halftime. Go Spurs Go! * Fun fact: In both of the Spurs three-game losing streaks this season, the Chicago Bulls were the second loss, right in the middle of the bad series of games. Pounding the Rock on Playback Game Prediction: Because the Spurs don’t want to travel back to LA, the teams agree to play the makeup game for Saturday immediately after the conclusion of the scheduled game and make it the first ever doubleheader in NBA history. Riley Minix scores 30 in the makeup contest, which concludes around 3 AM CT. One final word: Go Spurs GOOOOOO!!
