CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A Chesterfield family is now homeless after a minivan crashed into the side of their home.
Around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 12, Chesterfield Fire and EMS crews -- including members of its Technical Rescue Team -- responded to the 5400 block of Iron Bridge Road after a 2018 Dodge van drove into a house.

According to the Chesterfield Police Department, a male driver was traveling south on Route 10 when he missed the right turn onto Jessup Road. He tried to correct himself, but struck a curb, went through a yard and hit a house.
Police said speed was a factor.
No one was injured.
Couple Jennifer Prince and Russell Young said they were home when it happened.
“I just walked the dog and [Jennifer] was laying down,” Young said. “I heard a loud crash and I thought maybe one of the cats had knocked something down in the house.”
Young said he’s seen at least five crashes near his home since 2018.
“A few people have driven in the yard, but right there in front of our house, the lane ends, there's also a lot of fender benders,” Prince said.
According to Prince, the aftermath of this incident has left the couple and their three pets without a home. She said their landlord ended their lease because repairs are expected to take months.
According to the Department of Motor Vehicles, more than 1,165 speed-related crashes occurred at the intersection in 2024.
The couple said they hope this serves as a wake-up call for drivers to slow down.
“People just try to hurry and speed down Iron Bridge because it does speed up pretty fast and think they need to accelerate but you also need to pay attention to the other drivers,” Prince said.
“I don't have a [home] currently and I don't think that there's much consideration for what happens in the fallout,” Young said.
Police have charged the driver of the minivan with reckless driving. The couple is also organizing a GoFundMe to help them get back on their feet.
