SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Suffolk Fire & Rescue members, including its Marine Response Team, rescued a dog out of icy water at Sleepy Hole Lake in Suffolk Monday afternoon.
Suffolk Fire & Rescue got the call at 3:42 p.m. for a dog in Sleepy Hole lake stuck between the ice and water, with only its head sticking out, according to a department Facebook post.
The department's Marine Response team, along with Battalion 2 and Ladder 11, responded to the scene in the 1500 block of Wooduck Road to rescue the dog, with one member breaking the thin layer of ice around the dog to get to it, carry the dog out of the water and hand it off to another department member to carry him up the embankment.
The dog has been reunited with its owner, Suffolk Fire & Rescue said.
