VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A man who was arrested for bringing a gun onto school property was found to have had even more weapons inside the vehicle he drove there. At least nine long guns and 1,000 rounds of ammunition were found inside the pick-up truck driven to Bayside Presbyterian Church by Logan P. Thorp, according to documents filed with Virginia Beach General District Court. Thorp, 26, was arrested Jan. 8, for bringing a gun onto the property, which also houses a preschool. He is currently being held in Virginia Beach City Jail without bond. Man arrested for possession of firearm on VB church preschool property Thorp arrived to the property off of Independence Boulevard before 9 a.m. and tried the enter the locked church, according to the arresting officers account. "An employee opened the door to tell him church was closed," the officer wrote in the criminal complaint. "He walked past her saying he wanted to pray. He started acting a little odd." When police arrived, Thorp was found on top of his truck. He told officers he was armed and he was detained without incident, according to a Virginia Beach Police spokesperson. The guns in the truck were found in a safe. It's not known if Thorp is a member of Bayside Presbyterian. Attorney Neil Bonney, who represents the church, said there would be no comment. Thorp himself declined an interview through the sheriff's office. Up until his arrest, it's believed Thorp lived with his family in Virginia Beach. A reporter was told to "not call back" when they reached out to a family member. Thorp is due back in court Tuesday morning.
