The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council held their swearing-in ceremony this past weekend to kick off the start of this year’s session. The urban county council comprises 12 members who each serve two-year terms. Among those sworn in include three new council members: District 7’s Joseph Hale, District 1’s Tyler Morton and District 4’s Emma Curtis. Curtis is the body’s first transgender councilmember, and Morton is the youngest councilmember in city history. They’ll join councilmembers Chuck Ellinger, James Brown, Shayla Lynch, Hannah LeGris, Liz Sheehan, Denise Gray, Amy Beasley, Whitney Elliott Baxter, Dave Sevigny, Jennifer Reynolds, Hil Boone and Vice Mayor Dan Wu to round out the group. The urban county council will kick off its first meetings of the year this week. ** WEKU is working hard to be a leading source for public service, and fact-based journalism.
