FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -- The Fort Wayne plan commission heard plenty of comments over Aboite Meadows section D. The new neighborhood would be between Covington and Aboite Center roads just west of I-69. The plot of land it would sit on was acquired by Lancia Homes from the city. Lancia Homes identified the lot as a great opportunity to add housing to what is considered an infill lot. "It's basically a housing section filling land that's already surrounded by other housing sections," said Scott Myers, 4th district city councilman and plan commission member. In order to do it, the lot would need to be rezoned to residential in order to support 33 new homes. Something residents are wary of. "A main concern is that the drainage from the retention pond is already going to flow into a drain that's overworked," said Gerald Davis, a concerned resident. "Most of the residents that I've talked to are concerned about the safety of the construction of another housing edition, for safety reasons, for school bus reasons." Lancia's President, Jamie Lancia, presented at the meeting trying to ease worries. He claimed that in addition to being a great fit for the lot, the development would actually help with current water runoff. Residents remain suspicious that the development wouldn't harm them in a number of ways, and they'll have to wait to find out. With a holiday next week, the item will be revisited by the plan commission in two weeks before it heads to city council for further discussion.
