City, Springs Utilities host annexation plan meeting
Jan 13, 2025
(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The City of Colorado Springs and Colorado Springs Utilities (Springs Utilities) shared an overview of their draft on annexation guidelines, AnnexCOS at an open house meeting on Monday night, Jan. 13.
Annexation is the process where the City would move property from El Paso County into the boundaries of Colorado Springs. The city's plan looks at land most suitable for annexation.

On Monday, one of the concerns over the plan was there was no reference to any fire protection program for the City's Wildland Urban Interface.

"The concepts are all still very, very general, and I suspect they'll become more specific as there's greater input," said Tad Foster, a Colorado Springs resident. "And that's the value of this process that allows for people to provide input. Higher levels of specificity will evolve."
The plan still needs to be approved by City Council and any annexation in the future needs to be approved by City Council as well.
