A 49-year-old woman died after the motor scooter she was driving crashed in San Pasqual not far from San Diego Zoo Safari Park on Sunday evening, San Diego police said. The woman was driving the scooter westbound on San Pasqual Valley Road about 5:30 p.m. when she “failed to negotiate” a right bend in the road in the area of Ysabel Creek Road, Officer John Buttle said. Buttle said the scooter, a 2020 Vespa Piaggo, kept going straight, crossing into the eastbound lane before leaving the roadway. He said she was thrown from the scooter. The woman was taken to a hospital, where she died. Her name was not immediately released.
