(WROC) — The Irondequoit Police Department released body camera footage of the moment an officer shot a dog that had just attacked a child and an animal control officer. Dog bites infant and animal control officer in Irondequoit, dog killed The one-year-old girl and officer bitten were both hospitalized after the attack on Strathmore Circle, according to police. Both individuals were expected to survive their injuries. Irondequoit Animal Control and Irondequoit Police responded to the scene on Jan. 10 around 10:30 a.m. and found the infant had a "large wound on her leg" after she was bitten by the neighbor's dog. Trauma care was started right away. The owner was asked to help rally the erratic dog in an effort to get the dog into a van, however as the owner did so the dog slipped his collar and attacked the animal control officer, biting his calf. An Irondequoit Police Officer nearby sprang into action, shooting the dog dead once it had let go of the animal control officer. In the body camera footage released Monday, the IPD officer can be seen rushing from the street to the other side of the van to shoot the dog. According to police, the officer shot the dog seven times. The dog's owner was cited for owning an unlicensed dog. You can watch the body camera footage in the video player above.
