PORTERVILLE, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Four people have now been arrested after a man was carjacked and his garage was robbed in Porterville, the Porterville Police Department announced on Monday. Police say on Jan. 7 they received a report of a stolen vehicle from the 1300 block of south Main Street. Later that day the victim returned home and reported numerous items had been stolen from his garage valued at about $1,500. Through their investigation, officers say on Jan. 9 they arrested two suspects and some of the stolen property was recovered. As the investigation developed, detectives identified 47-year-old Frederick Rhoades of Exeter as the third suspect involved in the incident. On Saturday, Rhoades was spotted leaving a home in the 1300 block of west Morton Avenue and was detained shortly during a traffic stop. After a search warrant was obtained for the home Rhoades was spotted leaving, officers say they contacted the homeowner, 51-year-old John Chance of Porterville, who was found to have active warrants for his arrest. Chance was taken into custody without incident. During their search, investigators say they found additional stolen property from the initial burglary along with two rifles, ammunition, drug paraphernalia and meth, which were determined to belong to Chance. As a result, police say Rhoades was arrested on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy, vehicle theft, and possession of stolen property. Chance was arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, prohibited person in possession of a firearm, prohibited person in possession of ammunition, possession of an assault weapon, and the confirmed arrest warrants. Anyone with any additional information regarding this case is asked to contact the Porterville Police Department at 559-782-7400.
