ROSE HILL, Kan. (KSNW) - Rose Hill police have provided an update on the death investigation of 6-year-old Kennedy Jean Schroer that began in September. "We are nearing the end of the investigation and there is a general hope that we should be able to present our finding to the County Attorney within a month’s time. As has been the case, this is not a hard and fast timeframe as these things develop as they develop. At this time, we are compiling our findings, making sure we did not miss anything and ensuring we have the fullest possible view of the events surrounding this horrible event," said Rose Hill Police Chief Taylor Parlier. ‘She would be proud of this’: Families create meaning from loss through fentanyl billboard vigil Police say that they will continue to provide updates when appropriate. On the evening of Sept. 11, 2024, the Rose Hill Police Department received a call about an adult in distress at a home near Rose Hill Road and Rosewood Street. The adult barricaded themself inside the residence. The matter was resolved, and the adult was transported to an area hospital in serious but stable condition. While on the scene, officers learned of a possible past homicide. At around 4:30 p.m. the next day, police recovered a child's body in the backyard. Evidence suggests that they had been buried for possibly a couple of years. Investigators believe she died in November 2020, when she would have been 6 years old. The last update police gave was in November when they announced that the investigation was delayed as warrants were taking longer to become available than they had hoped.
