DEL CITY, Okla. (KFOR) - Del City Police are searching for a driver they say hit a man during a motorcycle, then the driver took off. Thankfully, the victim managed to remember the car's license plate number.
"It was still nice and shiny looking and everything," said Dusty Cortez.
Cortez only had his street legal dirt bijke for about 4 months.
"Just got the sticker, the tag. Stuck it on. Two weeks later, boom," said Cortez.

Sunday morning around 4 a.m., Cortez was at a red light at Southeast 44th and Bryant. That's when a silver SUV pulled up behind him.
"He honked his horn five or six times at the intersection," said Cortez. "The moment the light turned green he just gassed it through me."
"It felt like I was thrown that way a good 12 foot," said Cortez.
Cortez is thankful for that, because the driver kept going taking the bike along with it for several yards.
"It's one thing hitting a person. But taking off? That's crazy," said Cara Hillier, Cortez's wife.
Cortez only walked away with a bruised ankle and scuffed knee. He said that's because he was dressed for the cold weather.
"Five layers deep," Cortez said.
Through the surge of adrenaline, Cortez was thinking clearly.
"All I I could think of was 'License plate.' So I stood up and I scanned the license plate a couple of times," said Cortez
The Del City Police Chief said that's rare and vital information.
They were able to find out the SUV was registered to a 1996 Isuzu Rodeo.
"We know who it's registered to, we have to confirm they were actually in possession of the vehicle," said Chief Lloyd Burger of Del City Police Department.
Meanwhile, Cortez's bike is too damaged to ride.

"The forks, those should be spread apart. He essentially bent them together," said Cortez.
"The scrapes here are on the side of the fender and actually moved the fender off to the side of the tire," said Chief Burger.
Now, Del City Police is working with Oklahoma City Police to get footage of the crash from a flock camera at the scene.
"So, we're hoping they have video of this entire incident," said the chief.
"You're going to have to take responsibility for your actions at some point," said Hillier.
