MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- One man was arrested and a warrant was issued for another after a robbery at a Frayser grocery store led to a shooting on Friday, Memphis Police say. The MPD responded to a call at Gordin's Foods & Butcher Shoppe on Thomas Street around 11:15 a.m., where a store manager told police that three men walked out of the business with a cart full of food. Frayser shooting leaves man severely injured He said he followed the men outside, grabbed the grocery cart, and tried to take the stolen merchandise as the suspects entered a van. Reports say a man, identified as 33-year-old Robby Wooten, then got out of the van with a handgun, fired a shot into the air, and threatened to kill the store manager. Shortly after, officers responded to a shooting call in the 3200 block of Ridgecrest Street, where they found Wooten, who had been shot. He was taken to Regional One in critical condition. Fultz was also found on the scene and taken into custody. He allegedly admitted to entering the business with his brother and a friend to shoplift and said he was involved in a physical altercation with the victim outside the store. Reports say he also admitted to trying to take the victim's gun. According to an affidavit, Wooten told police that he was waiting in the van for the other suspects to exit the store, and admitted to pulling a gun out during the altercation. Wooten's records show as of 2018, he is a convicted felon for kidnapping. A warrant was issued for his arrest. Wooten however told WREG in an interview that he had nothing to do with the incident. 📡 See more breaking news, local news and weather from WREG.com for Memphis and the Mid-South. 📧 Sign up for WREG newsletters and have the latest top stories sent right to your inbox. "You know, number one, God brought me back so I'm feeling great. I didn't lose my life but I'm feeling upset because I'm going to have a warrant for my arrest for something I didn't know they was doing," he said. Wooten said he took Fultz and two 17-year-olds to the grocery store, but he did not know their true intentions. "He said he had a little money in his pocket or if he ain't got enough money he will go panhandle," he said. "I didn't know it was his intention to go in there and steal some food." While the group was in the store, Wooten went to another nearby location and then returned a short time later to pick up the trio. When the group came out of the store, Wooten said the manager followed them with a gun. "So the man was talking to me calm, he was like 'Sir they was coming in here to steal,' and I was like 'What's going on? Give this man his stuff back,'" said Wooten. He told us that at one point, when the man fell during a scuffle with the younger men in the group, Wooten asked if he was okay. Despite police records, Wooten claims he did not threaten the man with a gun or fire a shot into the air. He says he let the manager know the group of younger men did have a BB gun, but as he turned around he was shot multiple times in the back.  Wooten remains in the hospital recovering from his injuries while he maintains his innocence that he was not a planned getaway driver. "If they're the ones that stole, why did I get shot?" said Wooten. Wooten says he's also questioning why he was shot when he is Black and the other three suspects are white. Wooten was charged with Aggravated Assault - Acting in Concert, Convicted Felon in Possession of a Handgun, and Theft of Property $1,000 or Less. Fultz is charged with Aggravated Assault - Acting in Concert, Robbery, and Theft of Property Conduct involving Merchandise Less than $1,000. He is being held on a $100,000 bond. The two 17-year-old boys were also taken into custody. They were charged with Aggravated Assault - Acting in Concert and Theft of Property Conduct involving Merchandise $1,000 or Less. Their bonds are unknown at this time. WREG reached out to the corporate office of Gordin's Butcher Shoppe. We were told the owner has no comment.
