A shot of snow Tuesday ahead of another blast of cold
Jan 13, 2025
The connection to the arctic will continue and even colder air is forecast long range
After a brief thaw (36° Sunday) the cold has reloaded. Temperatures Monday are down as much as 20° from same time Sunday afternoon with wind-chills in the single digits.
It's a new cold surge to open the work week and reinforcing cold arrives behind a quick hitting snowfall Tuesday. "Clipper" low dives southeast and brings a coating to up to one inch of snow by early Tuesday afternoon. Snowfall coverage will reach its peak just before noon but quickly end before the evening commute. While amounts look light it may once again be a slick commute home Tuesday.
Renewed cold follows Tuesday's snow and by early Wednesday morning area temps are expected to fall below zero. This cold surge is the next in a series that comes our way.
Embedded within this cold pattern will be another brief thaw Friday with area temperatures that could reach 40°. However, temperatures often jump up before a new cold surge and the one that follows this weekend, will be bigger and bolder.
A full blown North American trough will encompass the Nation and not only will temperatures average below normal for most of the Nation, but we will also have the coldest air of the season. Area temperatures Monday may only hold in the single digits after area-wide lows again below zero.
