HUNTINGTON, Ind. (WANE) -- A T.J. Maxx and Five Below could head to Huntington after a realty group based in Indianapolis has proposed redevelopment for a building that has been vacant for years.
The proposed location, the old Kmart building located at the intersection of US 24 and Guilford Street, is said to have significant tenant interest according to Veritas Realty group, as it's located directly across from Huntington University and down the street from Huntington North High School.
Veritas Realty Group, a retail, restaurant, medical and entertainment real estate group, proposed the redevelopment, with T.J. Maxx and Five Below stores already slated to join.
In the proposal, Veritas Realty Group has plans to transform the 89,606-square-foot building into retail space with four or more stores being possible. Currently, the retail group has two spaces available, one being up to 40,000 SF and another being up to 11,875 SF
The Huntington Kmart location closed in 2014 as a part of a nationwide store closing.
WANE 15 reached out to Veritas Realty Group for comment, but has yet to hear back.
As of Monday, the City of Huntington has yet to receive any filings for the proposed redevelopment.
