Saints GM Mickey Loomis remains optimistic despite 512 season

METAIRIE, La. (Louisiana First) - There's a feeling of frustration from top to bottom inside the Saints facility about how the season went. General Manager Mickey Loomis, on the other hand, is opting to take a much more positive outlook on things.
Despite the team finishing 5-12, Loomis says there are still a lot of good things they did and eluded to not being in favor of a typical rebuild.
"You know, rebuild, it means different things to different people," Loomis said. "I think that you can turn around the season pretty quickly in the NFL and we've seen it with other teams and there's a lot of good things on our roster and there are some things that we need to to adjust in and fill in."

Loomis also pointed to one thing in particular that plagued the Saints all season that held them back from playing their best football: Injuries.
"Look, the results are the results and you can't ignore the results, but you also have to look beyond the results sometimes and understand the reasons behind the symptoms," Loomis said. "And some are in our control, some aren't. And so, look, we have to do the best job we can with the things that are in our control, and we have to understand the things that aren't in. Look, I know you guys, nobody wants to hear this, but this injury thing was a big deal this year. A really big deal. Prevented us from winning games, prevented us from being competitive in games. And so we have to get a handle on that I think more than anything else."
Loomis said over the coming weeks, they will take a deep dive into what is causing all the injuries and if it's something they're doing or if it just happens to be a coincidence.
