WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The candidates for Sedgwick County Commission were sworn in Sunday.
Republican Jeff Blubaugh unseated Democrat Sarah Lopez for District 2, while Republican Stephanie Wise replaced David Dennis in District 3. It marks the beginning of an all-Republican County Commission.
Blubaugh has a history of serving in public office. He was a Wichita City Council member for 11 years and spent time as a Goddard School Board member. Stephanie Wise was elected to her first public office.
Both are former real estate brokers, so rising property taxes are near the top of their priority lists.
"We've got to bring the next generation in there to buying property. It's people's key to successful wealth. So part of that is making sure we've got a strong evaluation program, we've just got to make sure it's affordable," Blubaugh said. "Running this county like we would a business."

He plans on prioritizing the business owner by cutting back their red tape.
"We're going to hit the ground running regarding shared services and consolidation. I think on the board, all five of us agree that taxpayers are burdened right now," Wise said.
Commissioner Stephanie Wise is also aiming to address higher property taxes for business owners as well as landlords.
"As property taxes rise, it doesn't stop at the landlord, it goes through to the business," she said. "Not everybody is well aware of what the County Commission does and what they're responsible for, but they do see their tax bill. They see where it comes from."
Office transparency is also on her agenda. She aims to make an effort to educate her voters on the duties of county commissioners.
Both commissioners are looking for opportunities to achieve their agendas by working with the other commissioners.

"If you look at Sedgwick County, the big fish is Wichita. And I don't want to neglect our 19 other cities, but I think there's a lot of cooperative and collaborative opportunities that we can do. That's the first thing I'm going to be after, looking for collaboration," Blubaugh said.
Sedgwick County Treasurer Brandy Bailey and Clerk Kelly Arnold were sworn into their offices.
