CENTRAL NEW YORK – Firmly established in the middle of their respective divisions the Christian Brothers Academy/Jamesville-DeWitt and Fayetteville-Manlius ice hockey teams both wanted to break out. But the weather did not cooperate too much as games throughout last week were postponed meaning that the Hornets, idle since a 5-2 win over Adirondack, would not play again until hosting Watertown IHC Tuesday at Cicero Twin Rinks. That Adirondack game was a demonstration of F-M’s resilience as it fell behind 2-0 after one period, only to roar back in the second with three unanswered goals to move out in front for good. A pair of late insurance goals sealed it, Will Sanzone and Nico Capriotti each earning a goal and two assists. Noah Chen had one goal and one assist. Henry Dougherty and Brian Tonkovich earned the other goals, with Tyler Mayne getting two assists. Connor McDonald and Mike LaDuke also had assists as Sean Lemarche shut out Adirondack the last two periods and finished with 35 saves. Back on Jan. 3 CBA/J-D outscored Section IV’s Broome County 7-5, which required the Brothers to rely heavily on its depth. Six different players netted goals, with only Henry Boynton scoring twice. Jack Dement had a goal and assist, with Logan Novak and Grady Shanly each earning a pair of assists. Griffin Filighera, Ryan Hayden, Coby Steele and Brody Novak took turns netting goals, all of them needed as Paul Brown and Liam Harty added assists. Back on the ice exactly one week later, CBA/J-D met Cortland-Homer at the Twin Rinks and rolled to a 7-2 victory over the Golden Eagles. Improving to 6-3-2 overall, the Brothers sprinted to a 5-1 lead through two periods led this time by Paul Brown’s pair of goals as Boynton, Logan Novak and Charlie Letourneau each had one goal and one assist. Shanly finished with two assists, with Steele and Jacob Dubrey each getting goals and Harty tacking on an assist.
