ONONDAGA COUNTY – Gaining even more momentum from a five-set win over Tully on Jan. 3, the East Syracuse Minoa girls volleyball team followed it up with more victories. When the Spartans swept Central Valley Academy last Monday night it was the team’s sixth win in a row, and unlike Tully this didn’t take long, ESM grabbing the three sets by margins of 25-17, 25-13 and 25-14. Leah Rehm returned from injury and led the Spartans with eight digs. Kristina Levkovich produced 19 assists, her passes often going to Morgan Palmer, who piled up 12 kills. Katelyn Davis earned five kills as Erin Murnane and Victoria Marano had four kills apiece. Bailey Rehm got four assists and five digs. The area’s other two local teams, Christian Brothers Academy and Manlius Pebble Hill, would meet up on Friday night after weather postponed most matches in the middle of the week, And it was the Brothers prevailing in three sets 25-10, 25-16, 25-13, improving to 4-1 on the season as Julie Zdep and Naveah Bacheyie set the tone, each of them earning five aces to go with their three kills. Carleah Morgia led CBA’s front line gaining seven kills, while Olivia Jones earned six kills. Rachel Zdep produced 11 assists as Katie Pledger earned seven digs and Julia Achuff finished with six digs. Before this, MPH prevailed in its first match of 2025 against rival Faith Heritage in four sets. The Trojans were pushed in each of the first two sets, yet won them by slim 25-22 and 25-23 margins, which allowed it to absorb a 25-19 loss in the third set before closing out the Saints 25-17 in the fourth to improve its record to 3-4. Caroilne Bernazzani gave MPH 12 kills, helped up front by Nora McGee and Darby Gardner with five kills apiece. Laura Kinane passed to all of them with 32 assists, adding three aces. Defensively, India Clary-Sohriakoff earned 19 digs, Annie Ward adding 12 digs as Kinane and Chloe Cox each got nine digs. Bernazzani contributed eight digs.
