NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — A 19-year-old has been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting in New Bedford over the weekend. Danielson Varela is charged with first-degree murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, and two counts of assault and battery with a firearm, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office. Officers responding Morna Lounge on Acushnet Avenue early Saturday morning for a report of a shooting found three victims inside suffering from gunshot wounds. Cristiano Macedo, 27, was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. The two other victims, only identified as women in their 20s, were also brought to the hospital for treatment. Varela was arraigned Monday and ordered held without bail after a not-guilty plea was entered on his behalf. He's due back in court Feb. 10 for a probable cause hearing. Close Thanks for signing up!
