INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WANE) An Indiana State Senator who represents Huntington, Grant, and Wabash counties has filed a bill that would move a casino from southern Indiana to New Haven in Allen County. State Senator Andy Zay, R-District 17 Sen. Andy Zay, introduced Senate Bill 293 last week. Plans to move the Rising Star Casino, operated by Full House Resorts, surfaced back in August of last year. In November, Full House Resorts released conceptual drawings for the proposed casino which would be located on land next to the I-469 and U.S. 30 interchange west of Doyle Road. The Indiana General Assembly would need to approve the casino's move. Zay is in favor of the move and that's why he filed the bill. However not all legislators want a casino in New Haven. State Senators Tyler Johnson, R-New Haven, and Liz Brown, R-Fort Wayne, as well as State Representative Dave Heine, R-New Haven, have all come out in opposition to the move. Full House Resorts release design concepts and other details of proposed New Haven Casino New Haven Mayor Steve McMichael is in favor of the casino moving to his city. He told WANE 15 recently that Full House Resorts first approached him about the possible move back in May. The Rising Star Casino first opened in 1996, but revenue has slowed since the opening of casinos in the Cincinnati area. Full House Resorts believes the operation would be much more profitable in New Haven.
