MURRELLS INLET, S.C. (WBTW) -- A popular Murrells Inlet pizza place closed its doors for good on Sunday. Uncle Mikey's Pizza owner Mike Zalloum said he has sold the business and is retiring after more than two dozen years in business. "I'll tell you what, I'm going to miss, all of them (referring to customers and community)," Zalloum said. "The most important thing about this, I'm missing your money, too, guys (laughter)." The restaurant has been a staple in the Inlet, serving as a gathering spot for many to create memories, enjoy a hand-tossed brick oven pizza and form everlasting friendships. Many people stopped in throughout Sunday to visit one last time and to show their unwavering support. Zalloum said it's this community he will miss most. “Since Day 1 that I came here, I never had a bad day," he said. "The community here is wonderful people, special, especially the kids who touched my heart," he said, holding back tears. "I consider myself the most blessed and happy person in the whole world." As for what's next for him, Zalloum said he has plans to enjoy life. "My dad was a great man, and he told me we live every day, and we die once," he said. "We should enjoy every second that we live." While the business and building have both been sold. Zalloum said he is taking the name "Uncle Mikey's Pizza" with him. He also said he wishes the new owners all the best.
