FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - One Fresno woman is spearheading an effort to send resources to Southern California amid the deadly wildfires. Missie Daigle held multiple donation drives near her home in Fresno to collect non-perishable food items, toiletries, and other supplies for firefighters and the thousands of families who lost everything in these wildfires.   For her, this effort to help is personal.  "My husband is down at the fires right now, so I wanted to figure out any way to help. I kind of contacted my kids' school and got them involved, but along with a couple other moms, we decided to just kind of come out here [and] see what we could get donated," she said. As of Sunday night, her husband's crew was stationed in Malibu to fight the Palisades Fire which has burned thousands of acres in the Pasadena-Altadena area. “It's kind of like half and half of just this unbelievable, like, proud moment," she said tearfully. “It's really just trusting that him and his team know exactly what they're doing, and I know, I know that they are trained for this.”  Daigle explained the support from the community is what touches her heart the most.  She said, "It's just surprising more than anything, but also just so heartwarming that even up here in Fresno that people have just come together for the community down there. I think pretty much everybody is connected in some way just as Californians." Just a few blocks away from the Daigle family home, Sonrise Church in Clovis with its own call to action — asking community members to donate anything to help fellow Californians. Phil Loughlin is the Executive Pastor at the church and said the idea started with a member of the congregation. "A lady in our church contacted me on Friday [and] she had a burden to say, 'Hey, is there something we can do?'" he explained.  He said the church will continue collecting donations on Jan. 13. between 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. “I think we all should do whatever we can," Loughlin expressed. "We have part of our state that is in need. And the best way and the quickest way I think people will respond is when they hear about it and doing something about it.” Daigle is inviting those who would still like to help to reach out on social media or make a monetary donation on Venmo at missie_d. She plans to deliver everything on Jan. 18.
