The final day of the Sony Open in Hawaii was a milestone for Chen Kim, marking the first time the Kaimuki native played on a Sunday in the tournament.
Kim entered the day at 4-under par, with hopes of climbing the leaderboard after a strong front nine that featured three birdies. However, back-to-back bogeys on the back nine slowed his momentum before he closed with a birdie, finishing 2-under for the day and 6-under for the tournament.

The former Kaimuki Bulldog placed 53rd out of 143 golfers, a significant achievement as he made the weekend cut in just his third Sony Open appearance.
“It was a lot of fun. I had a lot of friends and family come out, and it was just nice to play at home," said Kim. "Would’ve been great to play a little better, but for the first event of the season, I think I held it together pretty well. Hopefully, this leads to bigger things. This event will always be a stop in my books—to come back home and play in front of the locals brings back a lot of memories. There’s definitely some emotion tied to it, and this will forever be special to me.”
Kim now turns his attention to next week’s American Express tournament at the PGA West Pete Dye Stadium Course, where he hopes to build on the momentum from his Sony Open performance.
