San Diego weather: Weak Santa Ana winds Sunday ahead of Monday's red flag warning
Jan 12, 2025
Widespread fire danger is expected this week, as another round of Santa Ana winds develops for the start of the week.
The threat will be greater to our north where fires are already burning and quick spread will become a concern for many people in Orange County.
We are under Santa Ana conditions on this Sunday, but the winds are weak staying under 30mph, the winds will continue to weaken tonight, under clear skies, and very chilly temperatures. Many parts of the county will see overnight lows in the 30s, but it’ll be even colder for the mountains.
On Monday, high pressure will settle over the Great Basin, triggering a stronger offshore wind event. Santa Ana winds will last from Monday through Wednesday. Tuesday and Wednesday will bring the most widespread fire risk as the winds peak, and relative humidity plummets to 10% or below.
A Red Flag Warning is in effect for the San Diego County mountains and valleys from 4 p.m. Monday to 6 p.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service of San Diego.
Our dry weather forecast continues, with only a slight chance later this month. It has now been a month since San Diego’s last measurable rain.
