RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) – Stapleton Elementary in Rio Rancho was transformed Sunday hosting Reading Opens the World in the hopes of giving away more than 30,000 free books to eager kids looking for an adventure. City officials say the book distribution event was in the works for more than a month. Educators are hoping this event will get kids excited to read. Rio Rancho debuts new book mobile Families can take up to 10 books per student, with a maximum of 30 books per family. Teaching staff are also welcome to select up to 50 books for their classrooms. In addition to books, the event offered a variety of activities and resources like health screenings, safety do's and don'ts, and even some tips from dentists to help keep kids' teeth clean.
