PINEVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A person is dead following a shooting involving an officer in a parking lot in Pineville Saturday afternoon, officials say. On Jan. 11, at 3:49 p.m., Pineville Police received a 911 call regarding a customer inside the Tavern 51 restaurant and bar on Pineville-Matthews Road who pulled out a handgun and made threats toward others. It was also reported via 911 that the same customer may have had two additional firearms. When the first officer arrived on the scene, a citizen pointed out the suspect in the parking lot. Officials say the officer gave up to 13 verbal commands to the suspect which the suspect didn't comply to. Man shot, killed inside home on Colony Drive identified, High Point police say The suspect advanced towards the officer and made a sudden gesture, leading the officer to discharge his service weapon at the suspect. The suspect was struck and the Pineville officer immediately began rendering first aid. The suspect was transported to Atrium Main Hospital where he later died. The officer was not injured in the shooting and has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending an internal investigation. North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is conducting a criminal investigation while Pineville Police is conducting a parallel internal affairs investigation.
