Tracking a light wintry mix this evening
Jan 12, 2025
After a beautiful Saturday, clouds have returned today and we are tracking a light wintry mix of precipitation...
Watch out for some slick spots on the roads, as a result of the coating of snow and little bit of ice that may accumulate this evening. Temperatures will hover around the freezing mark though, allowing for salt treatments to be effective.
A powerful arctic cold front will move through just before midnight tonight, allowing temperatures to drop quickly through the overnight hours. Only a lingering snow shower or two will be experienced then before daybreak Monday, with temperatures in the teens to start off the new workweek. When you factor in wind gusts up to 25 mph, it will feel as cold as the single digits as you head out the door.
Monday will be a cold and mostly cloudy day, with temperatures only rebounding up into the lower 20s. When you factor in wind gusts up to 25 mph, it will still feel like the single digits during the afternoon. Bundle up and dress in multiple layers if you need to be outside for an extended amount of time.
The bitterly cold air lasts through Wednesday, where highs both Tuesday and Wednesday only reach the teens. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings will see temperatures in the single digits, and factoring in the wind, it will feel like we are below zero at times. Staying warm is important here, especially for the kids as they wait for the school bus early in the morning.
Precipitation-wise, we'll see some scattered lake effect snow showers on Tuesday and perhaps some spotty snow on Thursday, but nothing impactful at this point.
By Friday, we'll warm back above freezing and track rain/snow to be possible on Saturday. However, the thaw looks short-lived, as another big blast of arctic air appears likely next week. Stay tuned!
