BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — Here are the top stories that dominated the news during the past week, curated by the KX News digital staff:
1: Teen snowmobilers’ life-saving detour earns heroic recognition after rescuing elderly woman. Owen Inman and Brennan Asmundson were enjoying their Christmas break snowmobiling north of Berthold the morning of January 1st. They impulsively decided to take a different route two miles down the road. And that sharp turn saved the life of Faye Schaefer when they stumbled upon her car in a ditch. Inman says by the grace of God, the car door was open, causing the boys to stop and check inside.
2: Zoning for new emergency hospital in Minot approved. The Minot Planning Commission heard from several members of the community both for and against the now-approved zoning change. The proposed emergency hospital would be located on the north side of the 83-Bypass, at Eighth Street Northwest.
3: Voltaire man killed in vehicle towing incident. A Voltaire man was killed when he was pinned by his car against a structure while trying to pull the vehicle from a ditch.
4: Winter kill happened later in the Minot area. Leaders from the North Central Research Extension say the winter kill didn't happen as early as you would have thought here in North Dakota, especially in the Minot and Bismarck areas.
5: One injured, arrested in chase in Bismarck. The whole thing started when deputies contacted the driver of a 1989 Buick LeSabre, who was parked at the Bismarck Impound Lot, informing her that she had a suspended driver's license, and she fled.
