Two adults, three children displaced after early morning house fire in Chesterfield

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Two adults and three children are displaced after an early morning house fire in Chesterfield County on Sunday.
At around 6 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 12, Chesterfield Fire and EMS crews responded to a call for a structure fire in the 7500 block of Whirlaway Drive.
According to officials, the first firefighters that arrived on scene found fire coming from a second-story bedroom of the home. Crews were able to mark the fire under control in about 40 minutes.

Officials said a person was transported to the hospital to be treated for minor smoke inhalation.
Chesterfield Fire and EMS later confirmed that another person was transported to the hospital for minor smoke inhalation as well. Officials said both people are expected to be okay.
While investigating, Chesterfield Fire and EMS said it learned that a child woke up to find the fire in her bedroom and alerted her entire family to make sure they all got out of the house.
Two adults and three children were displaced due to the house fire and are being assisted by family, according to Chesterfield Fire and EMS.
Officials said the cause of the fire was determined to be a space heater that was placed too close to combustible materials.
