Open enrollment on Virginia’s Insurance Marketplace ends soon
Jan 12, 2025
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The deadline to enroll in a health plan on Virginia's Insurance Marketplace is on Wednesday, Jan. 15.
Virginians who enroll in a health plan on Virginia's Insurance Marketplace on or before 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday will have coverage that begins on Feb. 1.
According to officials, Virginia's Insurance Marketplace is the state's official health insurance marketplace that provides a variety of resources and support for Virginians to find affordable health coverage.
The marketplace is operated by the Virginia Health Benefit Exchange, which is a division of the State Corporation Commission.
Officials said nine out of 10 households qualify for financial assistance through the marketplace.
The marketplace offers individual and family plans to eligible Virginians, including those who are unemployed, self-employed or have jobs that do not provide affordable insurance options.
According to officials, every health plan offered on the marketplace covers the 10 essential health benefits required by law, which include emergency services, pregnancy and childbirth services, as well as prescription drugs.
After the open enrollment period ends on Wednesday, Virginians will not be able to enroll in a health plan on the marketplace until next year’s open enrollment unless they experience a qualifying life event, such as having a baby or losing health insurance.
