FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)-- The Allen County Coroner’s Office has identified the woman who died following a standoff that led to an officer-involved shooting at a Fort Wayne hotel Wednesday. The coroner identified the woman as 66-year-old Patricia Hepworth of Fort Wayne. Her daughter, Emily Schiewe, is speaking out following her mother's death. "She was very abusive, mentally and physically, and I mean, the worst of the abuse is what she went to jail for," Schiewe expressed. Coroner identifies woman killed in police shooting at Fort Wayne hotel Hepworth was convicted in 2000 of attempted murder and arson after she drugged Schiewe, who was only six years old at the time, with Valium. Hepworth then set the apartment on fire and escaped while her daughter suffered burns over the entirety of her body. Hepworth was sentenced to 50 years in prison but was released on parole after 22 years. "I don't understand why they released her to begin with, but I think they should have put her in a psychiatric facility," said Schiewe. She also expressed how the death of her mother has brought up painful memories that she has been trying to suppress for years. "I'm relieved. I feel like we don't have to worry about her coming around to bother us, but I feel like I have so many mixed emotions now too." WANE 15 learned that Hepworth stayed at a local home for women dealing with addiction and mental health issues before moving to Parkview Studios this past fall. The FWPD, Indiana State Police, the Allen County Sheriff’s Department and the Allen County Coroner’s Office are still investigating the incident. The FWPD said more information will be released “as it becomes available.” The officers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave per FWPD policy.
