Wintry mix, arctic air on the way
Jan 12, 2025
Overcast skies have moved back in as another weather system approaches. We finish the weekend like how we started with snow showers, but we're "mix"-ing it up for this afternoon and evening.
Temperatures are in the 30s for the PM and We're tracking a couple of rounds of wintry potential for our Sunday afternoon. The first round arrives in the afternoon with snow/freezing rain/sleet possible as a weak warm front moves into the area. Chances for the wintry mix continue into the evening and early overnight hours as we hover around the freezing mark.
Highs will range from the low-to-mid 30s across the region. Fort Wayne looks to see a high in the mid-30s, thanks to an early advancement of the warm front
Snow/sleet/freezing rain arriving this afternoon.More chances for the wintry mix this evening.A strong cold front pushes through early Sunday night with more snow/freezing rain/sleet possible.
Most will see less than an inch of new snow accumulation. Sleet and freezing rain are expected to be limited in impact, with only a glaze at most for freezing rain expected at this time.
A cold front passes through before midnight, bringing more potential for a wintry mix before we dry out for Monday AM.
Even though the warm front isn't particularly potent, the cold front will pack a punch. Temperatures will tumble through Monday morning, reaching all the way down into the teens.
The cold air influence becomes very strong on Monday. We'll see temperatures in the lower 20s heading off to work, falling into the teens through the rest of the morning. Monday night sees the appearance of single digits as the arctic air stalls over us. Wind chill values during the day fall into the single digits thanks to gusty westerly winds up to 30 mph.
The bitterly cold air lasts through Wednesday, where highs both Tuesday and Wednesday only reach the teens. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings will see temperatures in the single digits, and factoring in wind chills, it will feel like we are below zero. Staying warm is paramount here, especially for the kids as they wait for the school bus.
There will be a slight chance for a snow shower on Tuesday and Thursday, but nothing notable or widespread at this time.
While we start off cold Thursday, warmer air does move in for the rest of the day, getting us back into the 20s. Slight Highs in the mid-30s will be in store Friday and Saturday before we rinse and repeat the cycle of tumbling temperatures into the following week. It will certainly be a week of ups-and-downs!
