NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) -- The Bristol County District Attorney's Office is investigating after they said a 27-year-old was shot and killed inside of a business early Saturday morning.
Just before 1:30 a.m., the New Bedford Police Department was called to Morna Lounge on Acushnet Ave. for a report of a shooting inside the establishment.
When they arrived on scene, police found three people who had been shot. All the victims were then taken to St. Luke's Hospital.
Two victims, both only identified as women in their 20's, were treated for their injuries.
The third victim, identified as 27-year-old Cristiano Macedo of New Bedford, was pronounced deceased shortly after his arrival at the hospital.
In a statement Mayor Jon Mitchell said there's "no place in our city for brazen acts of violence like this morning's shooting."
"New Bedford Police is working diligently with the Bristol County DA’s Office to apprehend the perpetrator and bring him to justice," Mitchell added. "Chief Oliveira and I will urge the City’s licensing board to hold accountable any establishment where there has been a pattern of police incidents, including the bar where this morning’s incident took place."
The homicide is under investigation by Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office, New Bedford Police and Homicide Unit prosecutors.
No other information is available at this time.
